چکیده

Aims. Astronomical observations of (sub)millimeter wavelength pure rotational emission lines of the second most abundant molecule in the Universe, CO, hold the promise of probing regions of high temperature and density in the innermost parts of circumstellar envelopes. Methods. The rotational spectrum of vibrationally excited CO up to 3 = 3 has been measured in the laboratory between 220 and 1940 GHz with relative accuracies up to 5.2 × 10−9, corresponding to ∼ 5 kHz near 1 THz. Results. The rotational constant B and the quartic distortion parameter D have been determined with high accuracy and even the sextic distortion term H was determined quite well for 3 = 1 while reasonable estimates of H were obtained for 3 = 2 and 3. Conclusions. The present data set allows for the prediction of accurate rest frequencies of vibrationally excited CO well beyond 2 THz.

Vibrationally excited HC 3 N toward hot cores

We report IRAM 30-m observations of vibrationally excited rotational transitions of HC 3 N toward a sample of six ultra–compact Hii regions. In addition, Effelsberg 100-m and Plateau de Bure Interferometer measurements were conducted toward the region G10.47+0.03. We detected the v 7 = 1 state of cyanoacetylene toward all six regions and the v 6 = 1 line toward five of them. Toward G10.47+0.03,...

Scattering of vibrationally and electronically excited CO molecules from a LiF(100) surface

Experiments are performed in which vibrationally and electronically excited CO(a3II, v = 1) molecules are scattered from a LiF(100) surface. As there is originally no population in the vibrationless level of the metastable state, this experiment gives the unique possibility of probing the vibrationally inelastic channel in the scattering of vibrationally excited molecules. The vibrational deact...

The ND Radical: Laboratory Measurement of the N = 2-1 Rotational Transition at 1 THz.

The N = 2-1 pure rotational transition of the ND radical (X3Sigma-) near 1 THz was measured with the Cologne terahertz spectrometer. The ND radical was produced in a dc discharge of a flowing mixture of deuterated ammonia and helium. Frequencies of five strong fine-structure transitions with associated hyperfine components were precisely measured and analyzed to determine a complete set of accu...

Physical conditions in the Protoplanetary Nebula CRL 618 derived from observations of vibrationally excited HC 3

We used the Effelsberg 100 m and IRAM 30 m telescopes to observe vibra-tionally excited cyanoacetylene (HC 3 N) in several rotational transitions toward the proto-planetary nebula CRL 618. Lines from 9 different vibrationally excited states with energies ranging up to 1600 K above ground were detected. The lines show P Cygni profiles indicating that the HC 3 N emission originates from an expand...
